Checkout the Climate Action Secretariat

Climate Action Secretariate webpageWhy is BC's Climate Action Secretariat hiding its light under a bushel? The top level government website at http://www.gov.bc.ca/ is full of linked-graphics and linked-text that promotes the government's message and programs. The top right carries a graphic for BC 100 Years, followed by ActNow BC and continues down the page with 11 more graphics followed by 9 text links. Nowhere on the page is there a link to take a visitor to the opening page of the Climate Action Secretariat's top level webpage, with its revolving graphic which circles around clouds, as quotes from David Suzuki, Al Gore, Gordon Campbell and others fade in and out. It looks like no expense was spared on the design of that page.

You can reach BC' Climate Action Secretariat's website if you click on the BC link on the right side of the Western Climate Initiative's website. That's the site that invites public input, allows you to sign up for email updates and which includes the ability to listen to an audio recording of their October 31st stakeholder teleconference. You won't find anything like that on BC's site, nevertheless, BC is one of the partners in the Western Climate Initiative that is scheduled to meet in Salt Lake City on May 21, 2008 so its subcommittees "can present their recommendations on key elements of the regional cap-and-trade program and seek public input." That will be followed by the release in July of the full plan, again for public input, although it appears that any British Columbian who wants to participate in the process will have to bypass the Campbell government and participate with our friends south of the border.
